Meghan Markle Returns to Instagram After 3 Years

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has finally returned to Instagram after a three-year hiatus. The Associated Press confirmed that her new account, @meghan, is indeed owned by the duchess. Her first post features a black-and-white video of herself at the beach, where she draws the number 2025 in the sand.

The account, which already boasts over 200,000 followers, marks Meghan’s return to social media after she stepped back from her royal duties and discontinued her official Instagram account, @SussexRoyal, in 2020. The decision came as part of her and Prince Harry’s plan to distance themselves from the royal family.

In a 2022 interview with New York Magazine’s The Cut, Meghan expressed her desire to return to Instagram, saying, “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back…on Instagram.” However, she had also voiced concerns about harassment in the past. In 2023, Meghan and Harry urged social media platforms to strengthen content-moderation policies to protect young people’s mental health.

Meghan, who initially gained fame for her role in the TV series Suits, had a popular Instagram account before her royal duties began. Her return to the platform comes as she looks ahead to 2025, with the number prominently featured on her beachside post.
