Meghan Markle’s Netflix Series “With Love, Meghan” Fails to Connect with Critics and Viewers

Meghan Markle’s new lifestyle series on Netflix, “With Love, Meghan,” has been met with scathing reviews from critics in the British press. The show’s latest episode premiered Tuesday, marking the royal couple’s latest media venture to struggle to resonate with audiences.

The series features Markle inviting celebrity friends over for homemaking and cooking sessions, which drew comparisons to lifestyle guru Martha Stewart. Notable guests include Mindy Kaling, Abigail Spencer, Delfina Blaquier, Roy Choi, and Alice Waters.

Critics panned the show, with The Independent’s Katie Rosseinsky calling it “queasy and exhausting.” The Guardian criticized it as “gormless lifestyle filler,” while The Times described Markle’s presentation style as “desperate upbeatness” that presented her exclusive lifestyle as accessible to all.

However, not all reviews were negative. Vogue praised some of Markle’s segments, saying they were “interesting and relatable.” Harper’s Bazaar noted the series strikes a balance between friendly lifestyle voyeurism and true service content.

This is not the first time Markle and Prince Harry have struggled with their media ventures. Their Netflix deal reportedly worth $100 million includes five series, including the recent documentary “Harry & Meghan,” which premiered to 81.5 million hours watched in its first four days but received a mixed response from viewers and critics.

The royal couple has had a string of low-key projects since announcing they would step down from royal duties in 2020. Their popularity among the British public dropped after the documentary release, with many viewing their decision to release it as a bad idea.

The Wrap described the Netflix deal as “Hollywood miss,” citing anonymous sources who say Markle and Harry have “worn out their welcome in Hollywood” due to an iron-fisted desire for control.
