Former Daily Beast editor Tina Brown has slammed Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show “With Love, Meghan” as a “cultural fossil” that feels out of touch with current events. In a recent Substack chat with The Ankler founder Janice Min, Brown described the show as “unbelievably inauthentic” and likened it to a 2013 episode of Markle’s blog, The Tig.
Brown criticized Markle for trying to airbrush away her past controversies and present a sanitized version of herself. She believes that if Markle had been more honest about her struggles with the media and royal life, viewers would have been more engaged.
Janice Min countered that Markle seems to be stuck in a persona from 2012, when she transitioned from Fox News to NBC’s daytime talk show. Min expressed surprise at how quickly Markle’s image changed after returning to the spotlight.
Tina Brown also lamented that Markle seemed unable to move forward and adapt to changing circumstances. She noted that if Markle had shown more vulnerability and honesty about her struggles, it might have been refreshing for audiences.
Janice Min acknowledged that some viewers would watch the show out of curiosity, but overall, the program felt like a nostalgic trip back to Markle’s earlier days.
