Meryl Streep has finally broken her “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) debut barrier, joining the show’s star-studded 50th anniversary special on Sunday. The three-time Oscar-winner appeared in a recurring sketch called “Close Encounter,” alongside Kate McKinnon, Woody Harrelson, Pedro Pascal, and Jon Hamm.
In the sketch, Streep played Colleen Rafferty’s mother, describing her own X-rated alien abduction experience. Her character tells a humorous tale of being stuffed in a closet after the aliens lost interest. Pascal playfully flirts with her during the scene, earning a cheeky response from his character.
The special also featured surprise cameos from Jack Nicholson, 87, who introduced Adam Sandler’s original song about SNL’s 50-year history. This marked one of few public appearances for the veteran actor in recent years. With this debut, Streep has become the latest A-list celebrity to join the SNL family, cementing her place in the show’s illustrious history.
