Inter Miami stars Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba will not participate in the upcoming MLS All-Star Game against top Liga MX players in Austin, Texas. Despite being voted onto the roster, both players are expected to sit out due to concerns over player rest. League rules state that players who choose not to participate without a medical reason may face a one-game suspension. Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano had previously expressed concern about his team’s involvement, but ultimately has limited control over the matter.
The 2025 MLS All-Star game will feature Hirving “Chucky” Lozano and Denis Bouanga from San Diego FC and LAFC, respectively, with Sergio Ramos of CF Monterrey as captain. The league is celebrating its 30th season with the 29th All-Star Game, marking the fourth time it has been played in this format. MLS has won two of the last three matches against Liga MX, but lost last year’s edition 4-1.
