The US military has partnered with Meta, a leading tech company, to develop advanced virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems that will enhance soldiers’ perception on the battlefield. The partnership aims to utilize Meta’s AI-powered technologies in a new platform called Lattice, which will provide real-time intelligence and improve tactical decision-making.
The joint effort is focused on creating integrated XR products that will enable intuitive control of autonomous platforms. The companies have invested over 10 years in developing advanced hardware, software, and artificial intelligence capabilities. This project has been funded through private capital, with no taxpayer support, aiming to save the US military billions of dollars by using commercial-grade technology.
“Meta is committed to maintaining America’s technological edge,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO. “We’re proud to partner with Anduril to bring these technologies to American servicemen and women who protect our interests at home and abroad.”
Anduril’s founder, Palmer Luckey, echoed this sentiment, stating that the partnership represents a significant opportunity for dual-use technology to make a difference in America’s defense. The new products will enable soldiers to access limitless intelligence and extend their senses and perception.
The Lattice platform, developed by Anduril, integrates valuable data from various sources to provide real-time battlefield intelligence. By incorporating role-specific AR/VR interfaces, soldiers will gain intuitive access to this data, transforming how they see, sense, and integrate information on the battlefield.
This partnership marks a significant expansion for Meta in supporting US government technology adoption of its cutting-edge technologies. The collaboration builds on Meta’s existing Reality Labs investments and its work supporting adoption of its Llama open-source AI models for national security uses.
