Meta Platforms Inc. started eliminating jobs on Monday, laying off thousands of employees as the company focuses on acquiring top talent in artificial intelligence (AI). The move targets “low-performers” and aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
Affected Meta workers received emails with notification of their termination. To support departing staff, the company is offering severance packages to US-based employees, which include 16 weeks of salary and an additional two weeks for each year of service. Notably, employees receiving bonuses will still be eligible for a bonus, while stock awards are set to vest later this month as part of the upcoming cycle.
The move reflects Meta’s emphasis on cultivating a strong AI team, with the company seeking to dominate the rapidly advancing field. As the tech giant shifts its focus towards AI, it appears to be making significant changes to its workforce structure.
