Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Rare Watch Stuns Industry

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently made headlines on Instagram when he showcased his wristwatch in a post meant to announce the company’s new partnership with Oakley for its Smart Glasses. The rare timepiece, De Bethune DB28xs Purple Rain, caught the attention of watch enthusiasts worldwide.

Developed by De Bethune’s co-founder Denis Flageollet, this unique watch features a compact design measuring 38.7 millimeters in diameter and weighing only 7.4 millimeters thick. Its case and dial are crafted from grade 5 titanium that has been heat-treated to produce an intense purple color.

The DB28xs Purple Rain boasts a wavy guilloché pattern on its dial, representing water reflecting the night sky, with tiny gold spheres applied by hand to resemble stars. The openworked titanium hands are custom-made for this model, adding to its mechanical elegance and cosmic abstraction.

Powering the watch is De Bethune’s proprietary Caliber DB2005, featuring advanced features like a titanium balance wheel, triple pare-chute shock protection, and an enhanced accuracy. The limited edition of 25 pieces is priced at $99,000 US dollars and comes with both leather and canvas straps.

Zuckerberg’s growing love for rare watches has become apparent in the past year, as he has transformed himself into a notable collector of ultra-expensive timepieces from independent brands like F.P. Journe and Rolex. His watch choices reflect his deep appreciation for craftsmanship and mechanical innovation, highlighting the significance of centuries-old art form – watchmaking.
