Meta Invests $10 Billion in Louisiana Data Center

Meta has launched a massive investment in a new data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, with a total cost of $10 billion. The project will be built by Turner Construction, DPR, and Mortenson and will cover an area of 4 million square feet, making it the company’s largest AI-focused facility.

The data center is part of Meta’s broader efforts to advance its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, with plans to employ over 5,000 construction workers at peak construction. The investment reflects a growing trend in data center construction, driven by increasing demand for digital infrastructure and AI capabilities.

Big tech firms are expected to deploy $180 billion into data centers this year, according to research firm Dell’Oro Group. Meta’s $10 billion investment is set to be the largest single data center project in the US.

The facility will also feature a range of sustainability features, including clean and renewable energy added to the grid, which will cover 100% of the facility’s electricity use. Additionally, Entergy has requested approval to build at least 1,500 megawatts of new renewable energy to serve the facility.
