Meta has launched a new video editing tool that uses artificial intelligence to transform your videos in seconds. The free app, available for a limited time, offers over 50 preset prompts to change the background, theme, and even what you’re wearing. Users can choose from options like transforming their clip into a video game or anime, or dressing them in an AI-generated tuxedo.
The tool uses a similar interface to Instagram’s filter feature, allowing users to easily select their desired transformation. However, it only applies effects to the first 10 seconds of the video. The app is now available in the US and over a dozen countries through the Meta AI app, website, and Edits app.
In a hands-on test, the tool produced mixed results. When applying a desert theme to a video of parents’ dogs digging a hole, it altered the ground color to orange, added purple cacti, and gave the dogs shimmery eyes. Another attempt at transforming a self-portrait into an anime character resulted in fluorescent pink eyes and lips.
Users can share edited videos directly to Facebook and Instagram or add them to the Meta AI app’s Discover feed. While custom prompts are not available yet, Meta plans to introduce this feature later this year, allowing users to create their own text-based transformations alongside AI assistance.
