Meta is developing new class of CPUs with partner Arm to support growing AI workloads and general-purpose computing. Traditional CPUs can’t handle the demands of Meta’s data centers, so a new design is needed. The collaboration aims to create massive compute power in limited space, essential for large-scale AI deployments.
The first release, Arm AGI CPU, is designed specifically for AI era, delivering faster performance per rack more efficiently than legacy CPUs. Meta will lead the co-development of this CPU, which optimizes infrastructure for their apps and works with custom silicon. The Arm AGI CPU will be available to the broader AI ecosystem through Arm, with board and rack designs released under the Open Compute Project later this year.
This partnership aims to expand Arm’s compute platform into delivering production silicon CPUs optimized for large-scale agentic AI deployments. By combining high-performance computing with Meta’s infrastructure expertise, they’re supporting the next generation of AI systems.
The collaboration will help build a robust hardware stack for AI, enabling Meta to deliver AI experiences to billions worldwide.
