Meta Posts eBay Ads Fix to EU Antitrust Order Fine

Meta Platforms Inc. has announced plans to comply with a €798 million fine imposed by the European Union for abusing its dominance in online advertising. The company, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has agreed to publish classified ads from rival eBay on its platforms.

As part of the agreement, Meta will launch a test in Germany, France, and the US that allows buyers to browse listings from eBay directly on Facebook Marketplace while completing their transactions on the e-commerce platform. This move is seen as an effort by Meta to address EU concerns over its market dominance and ensure greater competition in the online advertising space.

The fine was handed down by the EU’s antitrust authority for violating EU rules on fair competition. The company has stated that it remains committed to challenging the landmark fine through the EU courts, despite taking steps to comply with the order.
