Meta is seeking proposals from nuclear energy developers to build new generation capacity, aiming to meet its “AI innovation and sustainability objectives”. The company wants 1-4 GW of new nuclear power by the early 2030s, with a focus on large-scale and small modular reactor projects.
Initial proposals are due February 7. Meta is open to partnering with various companies across the industry, including those capable of building multiple units to reduce costs.
The move follows other recent announcements from tech giants Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, which have also partnered with nuclear energy developers. These deals aim to deploy new nuclear power projects in the coming years.
Meta has already invested in renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, and aims to match its global operations with 100% clean energy since 2020. The company is seeking partners who can develop complex infrastructure projects and operate plants reliably and economically over the long term.
