Meta to Add Displays to Ray-Ban Smart Glasses in 2025

Meta Platforms is planning to update its $299 Meta Ray-Ban glasses with a small display that will show notifications and responses from its AI assistant. The move, expected to be released in the second half of 2025, is part of the company’s efforts to accelerate its smart glasses rollout.

The Ray-Ban smart glasses have been a surprise hit for Meta since their launch in 2021, with users able to take pictures and videos, play music, and ask questions to Meta’s AI assistant through built-in speakers and microphones. The new update is expected to further enhance the user experience.

Meta’s Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has described smart glasses as the next “computing platform” and has invested billions in developing augmented-reality glasses that can integrate AI and other capabilities into their wearer’s field of view. The company’s Orion augmented-reality glasses project, which was unveiled by Zuckerberg in September, is another example of its efforts to revolutionize the way people interact with technology.

While a consumer product version of the Orion glasses is still years away, Meta has already gained significant traction with its Ray-Ban smart glasses and other initiatives. The company’s stock recently gained 2.5% on Monday, following a 69% year-to-date gain.
