Meta Unveils Messaging and Highlighter on Threads

Meta has announced two significant updates for its social media app Threads, marking another milestone in the platform’s growth. After two years of launch, the company is seeing vibrant communities emerge and thrive, with a unique user base that sets it apart from Instagram.

To foster deeper connections and facilitate meaningful conversations, Meta is introducing Direct Messages (DMs) directly within the app. This feature has been highly requested by users and will allow individuals to continue discussions privately. To ensure safety, DMs are only allowed between followers or mutual followers from Instagram who are 18 and older.

In addition to messaging, Meta is introducing the Threads Highlighter, a visual element that emphasizes interesting perspectives and conversations. The highlighter will be applied to important parts of the app, including trending topics and discovered content. This update aims to elevate and recognize unique voices within the community.

Further enhancements to messaging include Message controls, Group messaging, and Inbox filters, which will allow users to manage their messages more effectively. As Threads continues to mature, Meta is prioritizing safety and user experience to create a space for positive interactions.
