Meta Unveils Smart Glasses with Display and Wristband Control

Meta is getting ready to reveal new details about its smart glasses at the upcoming Connect 2025 conference. The company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg will deliver a keynote speech, which we’ll be covering live on Wednesday.

The main focus of this year’s show is on Meta’s smart glasses, with several new features and updates being announced. According to reports, Meta plans to introduce new smart glasses with a small display in the right lens that can be controlled using hand gestures via a wristband. The display has limited field of view and will only show small pieces of information.

The wristband uses surface electromyography (sEMG) technology from CTRL-Labs, which allows it to “read” and interpret hand movements. This tech is expected to play a key role in Meta’s AI-powered smart glasses.

Meta’s new smart glasses are expected to cost around $800 and may be thicker and heavier than some of the company’s other offerings. The company has already demonstrated sEMG technology with its augmented reality Orion glasses, and it’s optimistic about its potential for revolutionizing how we interact with devices.

While Meta’s smart glasses have been a success, with 2 million pairs sold worldwide, there are rumors that new models will be announced at the conference. These may include updated Ray-Ban Metas, as well as new Oakley frames with camera functionality.

However, it seems unlikely that Meta will unveil new Quest VR headsets this year. Instead, the company is focusing on its Horizon OS and AI-powered features. Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote speech is expected to touch on the metaverse, but it’s unclear what specific details will be revealed.
