Meta Unveils Superintelligence AI Lab Amid Competition with Google and OpenAI

Meta is launching a new AI research lab focused on “superintelligence,” a concept that aims to create artificial intelligence systems surpassing human capabilities in many tasks. The move comes as the company seeks to boost its AI presence and compete with tech giants like Google and OpenAI.

To spearhead this effort, Meta has hired Alexandr Wang, founder and CEO of Scale AI, according to reports. The news comes after Meta was said to be investing billions in Scale AI as part of a deal that would bring top talent from the company on board.

Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly frustrated with his company’s current AI shortcomings and has been personally recruiting around 50 new researchers, including an AI research head, at his homes in Lake Tahoe and Palo Alto. His goal is to have Meta surpass other tech companies in achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI).

The new lab follows a recent milestone for Meta AI, which reached 1 billion monthly active users last month.
