Meta Won’t Change Infrastructure Spend Amid Chinese AI Startup DeepSeek’s Advances

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has addressed the recent breakthroughs by Chinese AI startup DeepSeek in a company-wide meeting. He praised the startup’s “novel infrastructure optimization advances” and stated that these advancements could benefit Meta as it can implement some of their methods. This is despite concerns among tech investors that DeepSeek may have caused panic in the market.

Zuckerberg said he does not think the company will change its infrastructure spend, but rather benefit from DeepSeek’s innovations. He also expressed his motivation to stay ahead of the competition. The Meta CEO has announced significant investments in AI and plans to allocate $60 billion to $65 billion for the year. Nvidia’s decline in value is attributed to fears that DeepSeek has leapfrogged US AI labs.

Meta CFO Susan Li has stated that the company appears more insulated from the market impact caused by DeepSeek. She noted that Meta does not rely on selling its own open-source AI model, Llama, to generate revenue, which may reduce concerns about spending less on infrastructure investment or getting more for existing investments.
