Meta’s AI Chatbot Policy Under Fire for Allowing Romantic Conversations with Kids

US Senators Call for Probe into Meta Over Alleged AI Chatbot Policy for Children
Republican lawmakers have urged a congressional investigation into Meta after an internal policy document allegedly allowed the company’s AI chatbots to engage in romantic conversations with children.

The policy document, which has been removed by the company, included examples of supposedly acceptable interactions with kids, including “conversations that are romantic or sensual” and discussing a child’s attractiveness. Senator Josh Hawley called for an immediate investigation into Meta’s handling of the issue, citing the company’s past failures to protect underage users.

The controversy sparked concerns about the lack of oversight in regulating AI technology, particularly when it comes to protecting minors online. Other lawmakers, including Democratic senator Brian Schatz, have expressed outrage and support for a congressional probe into the matter.

Meta has maintained that its policies prohibit content that sexualizes children and restricts interactions between adults and minors. However, some critics argue that the company’s previous actions demonstrate a lack of trustworthiness when it comes to protecting young users online.
