Meta’s Smart Glasses Rival: Rokid Glasses Launch with Display

Meta’s upcoming smart glasses have got some competition in the market. The Rokid Glasses, launched internationally just days before Meta Connect, offer a range of features similar to Meta’s existing smart specs.

Priced at $599 (around £355 / AU$920), these glasses boast a 12MP camera, open-ear speakers, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 chipset. They also feature an onboard AI assistant, powered by “ChatGPT 5,” for better internet connectivity. However, what sets them apart is the addition of Micro LED waveguide displays that serve as a heads-up display for directions, real-time translation, and as a prompter.

These glasses can identify objects in your vision upon request, just like Meta’s smart specs, but with an added feature of highlighting what they’ve identified. The screens are designed to appear conveniently without being distracting, though they’re not full-color – limited to green text and shapes.

The Rokid Glasses seem promising, especially considering their lower price point of $599. However, it remains to be seen how well they’ll perform. Meta’s smart glasses, rumored to cost around $800, will likely boast a full-color display for better versatility.

In the end, both Rokid and Meta are giving consumers more options in the smart glasses market, which is no longer dominated by VR technology. As the competition heats up, it’ll be interesting to see how these two specs hold up against each other after their official launches.
