US Immigration Agents Have Detained Mexican Boxer Julio César Chávez Jr.
The US has detained prominent Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez Jr and is working on his deportation, citing an active arrest warrant in Mexico for involvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives. Chávez, 39, entered the country legally with a tourist visa but had filed an application for lawful permanent resident status based on his marriage to Frida Muñoz, a US citizen connected to the Sinaloa cartel.
The Biden administration indicated that Chávez was not an immigration enforcement priority, despite the Homeland Security news release stating he is “an egregious public safety threat”. Chávez has faced criticism over alleged associations with figures linked to drug trafficking, and his family issued a statement supporting him.
