Mexico City Witnessed Bright Bolide in Sky

Residents of Mexico City were shocked when a bright blinding light appeared in the sky around 3 a.m. Wednesday, April 16. The phenomenon was initially thought to be a meteorite, but scientists later explained that it was actually a bolide – a “fireball event” that occurs when small asteroids enter Earth’s atmosphere. Bolides are common and can be seen during the day due to their brightness. According to Dr. Mario Rodriguez, a space science expert, the sighting was relatively small and harmless, measuring around five feet in diameter. The bright flash observed was caused by the object’s high pressure as it entered the atmosphere. This is not the first time Mexico City has witnessed such an event; another bolide occurred in 2020, causing a midday flash of light and a sonic boom.
