Mexico’s attorney general, Alejandro Gertz Manero, has launched a new investigation into the alleged cartel killing site at a ranch in Jalisco state, where remains and personal items were found by searchers. The original investigation by local authorities is being criticized for irregularities.
The “Ranch of Horror” was discovered in September 2024 by state authorities, who found evidence that raised questions about their own investigation. Six months later, another group of searchers uncovered charred bone fragments and personal items, sparking concerns about the handling of the case.
Gertz Manero has stated that local officials failed to properly investigate the ownership of the ranch, analyze scientific evidence, and arrest suspects. He also claims that federal prosecutors were not informed about the site, as per standard procedure.
The United Nations Human Rights Office has called for an independent investigation into the alleged crimes, while a group of searchers shared disturbing images of human remains and personal items found at the site. Vigils and protests have taken place to honor the victims.
Mexico has seen an increase in mass graves in recent months, with multiple discoveries in northern Mexico and the Guadalajara suburb. Authorities believe that cartels use ovens to incinerate their victims, leaving no trace. The investigation into the “Ranch of Horror” is expected to shed light on the truth behind this gruesome discovery.
