Ocean Infinity has relaunched its search for the long-lost Boeing 777 Flight MH370. The plane vanished over the Indian Ocean in 2014 after taking off from Kuala Lumpur, and despite a three-year seabed search, no wreckage was found.
The company has agreed to undertake the search on an unusual “no-find, no-fee” arrangement. If it finds the wreck site, it will receive $70 million. The survey ship Armada 7806, equipped with advanced underwater vehicles, has already begun its deployment and operations in the Indian Ocean.
Ocean Infinity’s new low-crew survey techniques are being tested in this high-profile mission. The company aims to perform ROV and AUV search operations with less overhead and lower fuel consumption than traditional platforms. With a crew of as few as 16 members on board, the Armada 7806 is designed to increase efficiency.
According to AIS data provided by Pole Star, the ship has arrived at its position in the Indian Ocean and is now conducting survey operations. The search for MH370 continues, with $70 million hanging in the balance.
