The Dallas Cowboys’ preseason is over, and the focus shifts to Micah Parsons as his back injury woes raise questions about his availability for Week 1. During the finale against the Atlanta Falcons, Parsons made a ‘call me’ gesture after an Atlanta fan shouted at him to “come to the Falcons.”
Parsons played with a hoodie and winter hat instead of wearing his jersey on the sidelines, and laid down on the medical table behind the bench during the third quarter. Coach Brian Schottenheimer said he was unaware of Parsons’ actions but will review the film and speak with those involved.
Parsons has been dealing with back tightness since June minicamp and training camp, but owner Jerry Jones believes it’s not a major concern for his NFL debut plans. Cornerback Trevon Diggs mentioned Parsons may play Week 1 if his back feels better, as he went to get it checked out after feeling sore in the morning.
The Cowboys’ fifth-year option is worth $21.324 million, and they’re ready for Parsons to play on that deal if a contract agreement can’t be reached. The team appears willing to move forward with Parsons playing on his rookie contract if an agreement isn’t possible.
