Michelsen Finds Camaraderie Among Fellow Americans on ATP Tour

American tennis player Alex Michelsen, just 20 years old, has made significant strides on the ATP Tour since his debut in June 2023. A breakout year included reaching the Australian Open third round and becoming one of several young American players vying to restore US dominance in men’s tennis.

Michelsen’s relationships with his fellow American players are more than cordial – he says they’re “closer” to him than anyone else on tour. He praised Fritz, who shares Michelsen’s SoCal roots, for being a great friend and rival. The pair have played doubles together, alongside Korda, Maccie McDonald, Ben, Tommy, and Frances.

With several top-ranked Americans on the rise – all “knocking on the door” for the top 10 – American tennis is experiencing a resurgence. Michelsen, ranked sixth among his countrymen, attributes this success to the depth of US talent. He’s set to return to the Next Gen ATP Finals, where he’ll face off against more experienced opponents, aiming to improve upon last year’s group stage results.
