Michigan QB Bryce Underwood Ends Spring Game with a Bang

Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood made a strong impression in his debut at the Big House, leading the Blue team to a 17-0 victory over the Maize. Despite some mistakes, including an interception and two delay-of-game penalties, Underwood showed signs of why he was the nation’s No.1 recruit. The freshman from Belleville High School completed 12 of 26 passes for 187 yards and had a long run.

Underwood’s biggest play came on a reverse flea-flicker to tight end Jalen Hoffman, which resulted in an 88-yard score. Michigan coach Sherrone Moore praised Underwood’s performance, saying he “made some really good throws” but also noted that he has work to do.

The spring game also gave fans their first look at running back Justice Haynes, a transfer from Alabama who has “home run” speed. The Blue team’s offense will likely be more explosive this fall under new coordinator Chip Lindsey, with the goal of finding balance and getting receivers more involved. Michigan’s offensive line is also looking to improve, with Moore saying that center Greg Crippen, guard Gio El-Hadi, and tackle Andrew Sprague are likely to have starting spots.

Moore emphasized that the competition for the starting quarterback job will be fierce, with Underwood competing against Jadyn Davis and Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene. However, he also noted that the team may explore options in the transfer portal. With preseason camp approaching, Michigan fans will be eager to see how the team comes together and performs under new leadership.
