Microsoft has reportedly shifted its priorities away from developing its own Xbox handheld console, with the team instead focusing on improving Windows 11 gaming performance for third-party devices. The news comes after internal staff were informed that the company is now prioritizing OEM handhelds in the interim.
The Asus ROG Ally 2, a rumored Xbox-branded handheld device, was recently leaked online and is thought to be one of the first devices to use the AMD Z2 Extreme processor. However, details about its performance are scarce due to incomplete tech specs.
According to insiders, the devices have been tested at Microsoft HQ and are currently undergoing testing as part of a “open” evaluation process. This suggests that Microsoft may be working closely with Asus to refine the handheld console before its release.
In related news, Xbox president Sarah Bond confirmed in recent comments that the successor to the Xbox Series X is fully in production and expected to launch in two years, featuring significant technological advancements.
