Microsoft is stepping up its efforts to encourage Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 before their operating system reaches end-of-life support next year. The company has added banners promoting upgrades to Windows 11 to various help pages and websites, including the Surface device Help page.
According to reports, Microsoft has also tweaked hundreds of support documents related to Windows 10 to include these banners or similar reminders. These efforts are expected to intensify as the deadline approaches in October 2025.
Windows 10 users are being advised that after October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for the operating system. The company recommends moving to Windows 11, which will still allow PCs to function but may leave them vulnerable to security risks if not updated regularly.
Microsoft is not the only option for those stuck on older hardware. Users can consider alternative operating systems like Linux or pay for an extended support contract.
As 2025 progresses, users can expect more prominent reminders from Microsoft about upgrading to Windows 11 before their system reaches end-of-life support.
