Microsoft Cracks Down on Windows 11 Bypass, Requires Microsoft Accounts

Microsoft has confirmed that it’s removing a popular command line workaround that allowed users to bypass connecting to the internet and signing into a Microsoft Account when setting up a new Windows 11 PC. The “bypassnro” command, which was widely used by users, is being phased out to ensure that all users exit setup with internet connectivity and a Microsoft Account.

This change will require users to create a Microsoft account during the Windows 11 installation process, making it more difficult for those who prefer not to use one. However, there are still alternative methods available, such as setting up an unattend.xml installation or manually re-adding the bypassnro command through registry edits.

The removal of the bypassnro command is now in testing with the latest Windows 11 beta build and will likely roll out to production versions in the coming weeks.
