Microsoft Cracks Down on Windows 11 Bypass Script

Microsoft has taken steps to strengthen security and user experience in its latest Windows 11 Insider Preview, effectively ending a well-known bypass script that allowed users to skip setting up an internet-connected account during the installation process.

The new update removes the “bypassnro.cmd” command, which was previously used by some users to circumvent the requirement of connecting to the internet and logging in with a Microsoft account. This change aims to enhance security and user experience, ensuring that all users exit setup with internet connectivity and a Microsoft Account.

While this move may limit workarounds, such as reactivating the bypass script via registry edits or using automation tools for IT departments, Microsoft is instead focusing on more straightforward solutions. The company has been cracking down on Windows 11 upgrades for older PCs, removing support for outdated hardware and promoting purchases of new devices.

As part of this effort, full-screen ads are being displayed to users, encouraging them to upgrade to a compatible PC. Meanwhile, the ability to install Windows 11 with old product keys has also been removed. With these changes, Microsoft is pushing users towards using internet-connected accounts for their new PCs.
