Microsoft has dropped support for Intel’s 8th, 9th, and 10th-generation CPUs with the release of Windows 11 24H2. This means that older CPU models from the “Coffee Lake” (8th and 9th generation) and “Comet Lake” (10th Generation) families are no longer supported by Microsoft.
Although these CPUs still meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11, Microsoft has removed them from their list of supported CPU models. However, users who already have older CPUs can continue to use Windows 11 24H2 without any issues.
The move is aimed at encouraging OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to build new Windows 11 systems with newer processors. This means that when purchasing a new PC, users can expect newer Intel CPU models to be used instead of the older ones.
For DIY PC builders, this change does not pose an issue as they can still use and upgrade their existing CPUs with the latest version of Windows 11. The dropped support for older CPUs is primarily intended to push OEMs towards using more modern processors in new systems.
