The US government has approved the export of advanced AI chips to Microsoft’s facilities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), further strengthening its collaboration with AI company G42. This move is part of a broader deal between Microsoft and G42, where Microsoft invested $1.5 billion in the UAE-based firm earlier this year.
As part of the agreement, G42 will utilize Microsoft’s cloud services to power its AI applications. The investment was made by Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Company, the UAE royal family, and US private equity firm Silver Lake. These stakeholders have a minority stake in G42, with Microsoft gaining a board seat.
The partnership enhances Microsoft’s presence in the Middle East region and demonstrates its commitment to developing AI capabilities in the region. The deal also marks an expansion of Microsoft’s collaboration with G42, which aims to drive innovation in AI research and development.
