Microsoft has announced that it is extending the support for Windows 10 until October 14, 2024, allowing users who are hesitant to upgrade to Windows 11 just yet. To continue using the aging OS, users can sign up for the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, which provides critical security updates but not new features or technical support.
The ESU program is now available to all individual Windows 10 users and comes with three enrollment options: earning 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points by downloading the Bing app, syncing Windows Backup to Microsoft OneDrive, or paying $30 directly. Users can continue using Office apps (Microsoft 365) for an additional three years during this extended support period, but will only receive security updates.
Note that stricter hardware requirements for Windows 11 mean some users may not be able to upgrade their PCs, and Microsoft does not officially support workarounds. However, the company has made the ESU program more accessible by offering two free options, providing a temporary reprieve for those who prefer to stick with Windows 10.
