Microsoft Fires Employees Who Organized Gaza Vigil

Microsoft has fired two employees who organized an unauthorized vigil at the company’s headquarters for Palestinians killed in Gaza during Israel’s war with Hamas. The employees, part of a coalition called “No Azure for Apartheid,” claimed the event was similar to other employee-organized campaigns for people in need.

The workers, Abdo Mohamed and Hossam Nasr, said the vigil aimed to honor victims of the Palestinian genocide and raise awareness about Microsoft’s complicity in the conflict. Google fired over 50 employees earlier this year after protests over its supply of technology to the Israeli government.

Microsoft declined to provide details on the firings, citing privacy and confidentiality concerns. However, the company stated it remains committed to maintaining a professional and respectful work environment. The fired employees face uncertain futures, with Nasr needing a new job within two months to avoid deportation.
