Microsoft Fixes Classic Outlook Crash Issue with Temporary Fix

Microsoft has announced a temporary fix for the crashing issue in classic Outlook. The problem emerged after updating to Version 2412 (Build 18324.20168) on January 7, which triggers an exception code error (“0xc0000005”).

To determine if you’re affected, check the Windows Event Viewer Application Log for crash Event 1000 or Event 1001 with specific details in a recent support document.

Microsoft has identified a fix and plans to roll out Version 2501 Build 18429.20000 on January 28. In the meantime, users can revert Outlook to version 2411 (Build 18227.20162) by following these steps:
– Search for ‘Command Prompt’ in Windows search.
– Run as administrator, then enter these commands:
officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.18227.20162

This temporary fix follows recent updates addressing other Outlook issues, including automatic installation of the new email client on Windows 10 systems starting with February’s security update and fixes for Gmail sign-in problems in classic Outlook users.
