Microsoft has released a new update, KB5051987 (February 11 Patch), to fix issues with Windows 11 24H2 that affected gaming PCs and HDR functionality. The bug caused some games to stop working or render with incorrect colors when the Auto HDR feature tried to translate standard dynamic range (SDR) content.
The update addresses a safeguard hold in place for this issue, which will be lifted soon. For users already on Windows 11 24H2, installing the February 2025 update can resolve HDR-related problems. Those waiting for the feature upgrade will begin seeing the update in 48 hours.
However, Microsoft still acknowledges an ongoing issue with audio problems on devices with Dirac Audio, which affects Bluetooth, headphones, and speakers. The company is working to fix this problem, but its resolution timeline remains unclear.
The latest update follows recent criticism of Windows 11 24H2, including issues with the search bar in File Explorer, elements appearing outside the screen, and a problem causing cursors to disappear. Microsoft had previously warned against forcing installation on devices with HDR settings, which could cause system stability issues.
