Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s developer has issued a public apology for the “awful launch experience” that plagued the game on its initial release. The team, led by head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann, acknowledged that they underestimated the number of players eager to dive into the simulation, leading to long queue times and unchanging loading screens.
Neumann explained that the issue was caused by problems with the content delivery network (CDN), which struggled to handle the massive traffic on launch day. “Someone told me we had 100 billion package requests on the first day,” Neumann said. The team worked to modify their system, eventually smoothing out the issues.
However, despite this progress, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 still contains bugs. Two bug-fixing patches have already been released, with another planned for next week. The most requested fixes include issues with airport lighting, live weather, and mouse sensitivity. The game’s developer has acknowledged some of these problems, including a fix for the unrealistic brightness of wind and turbulence in Career Mode.
The team expressed gratitude to players who contacted them during this period, thanking them for their encouragement. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is still being worked on, with ongoing efforts to address its issues and improve the overall gaming experience.
