Microsoft Investigates Jarring Windows 11 Bug in Dark Mode

A recent update to Windows 11 (KB5070311) is causing users to experience a jarring bug when using dark mode. When opening File Explorer, some users report seeing a brief full-screen white flash before the icons and folders appear. This can be distracting, especially on larger or brighter screens.

The issue has been listed among the update’s known problems, and it may also occur in other situations, such as switching between views or using certain file copy dialogs. The white flash doesn’t happen every time, making it harder to anticipate.

Microsoft plans to fix the bug with a future Windows update but hasn’t yet announced a release date. Users who find the flashing issue bothersome can try disabling dark mode, skipping this optional preview update, or rolling back to an earlier version through the Windows Update history page.
