Microsoft has shut down its Windows 10 Beta Channel, moving all enrolled Insiders to the Release Preview Channel. The company had reopened the channel in June with the goal of developing new features for Windows 10 before releasing them to all customers. However, just five months later, Microsoft decided to close the channel without explanation or revival plans.
As a result, all Windows 10 Beta Channel participants will be automatically switched to the Release Preview Channel. Microsoft advises users to prepare for Windows 10 end-of-support by moving to Windows 11 as soon as possible. The end of support is scheduled for October 14, 2025, after which security updates and bug fixes will no longer be available.
Microsoft has also announced that home users can delay the switch to Windows 11 for another year by paying $30 for Extended Security Updates (ESU). Enterprise customers will receive the option on November 1, 2024. The company plans to offer cloud-based ESU on its price list in the future.
