Microsoft Makes AI Tools Free to Expand User Base

Microsoft is expanding access to its advanced AI tools by offering them for free. Users can now explore features like unlimited voice conversations and the “Think Deeper” function, allowing for more natural conversations with Microsoft’s AI assistant without paying a fee.

Previously, these features were only available to paid subscribers. The company aims to broaden its user base by making the tools accessible to millions of people, driving user growth and loyalty. However, heavy demand may cause occasional delays.

The “Think Deeper” feature, powered by OpenAI’s o1 model, boosts Copilot’s ability to handle tough questions with detailed answers. It also enables users to have longer, hands-free chats, making the AI easier to use.

Microsoft is responding to growing competition in the AI space by removing paywalls and reaching more users. This move increases user adoption and builds loyalty, while also providing a way to turn free users into paying customers.

As of February 26, 2025, Microsoft stock is trading at $397.90, down 1.51% from the previous close. Analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on MSFT stock based on 26 Buys and three Holds assigned in the past three months, with an average price target of $510.23 per share implying 28.23% upside potential.
