Microsoft Makes Xbox Accessible Tech More Affordable and Convenient

Microsoft has made its Xbox Adaptive Joystick, designed for people with limited mobility, available for purchase directly from the company. Priced at $30, it offers four customizable button inputs and a standard thumbstick, making it a more affordable option than the official wireless Xbox controller.

The company is also introducing AI-powered image descriptions to Windows screen-reader Narrator, allowing users to access “rich image descriptions” sometime this spring.

In addition, Microsoft Teams will soon offer automatic sign language recognition, placing speakers prominently during meetings later this year. This update streamlines the process and builds on the existing Sign Language View feature, an opt-in service that recognizes and highlights sign language in real-time.

Microsoft’s commitment to accessibility continues with its Adaptive Mouse, which offers near-endless customization options, and innovative technologies like game controller pairing and Surface laptop accessibility kits. The Xbox Adaptive Joystick is just one example of the company’s dedication to making tech more inclusive and accessible for all users.
