Microsoft has announced that Amy Coleman will replace Kathleen Hogan as its chief people officer, effective immediately. Coleman, who joined the company in 1996, will report directly to CEO Satya Nadella and join a group of top executives.
The software giant, with over 228,000 employees, is one of the largest employers in the US by headcount. Coleman, a veteran Microsoft employee, has worked at the company for over 25 years and previously served as corporate vice president for human resources and corporate functions.
Under Hogan’s leadership, some of Microsoft’s human resources practices evolved, including an emphasis on growth mindset and inclusivity. However, Hogan is leaving her role to join a newly established Office of Strategy and Transformation, reporting directly to Nadella.
Coleman has been instrumental in developing Microsoft’s hybrid work approach and leading the HR aspect of the company’s COVID-19 response. Her new role will oversee the company’s culture, employee engagement, and enterprise crisis response efforts.
