Microsoft’s long-neglected Notepad app has finally received an AI-infused update that can generate custom text based on user prompts. The feature is available for users with Microsoft 365 or a Copilot Pro subscription, allowing them to fine-tune the generated content with follow-up prompts.
The update builds upon the recent addition of the Rewrite tool, which uses generative AI to refine existing text. Users can now also right-click and select “Write” from the Copilot menu to generate new text or use the Ctrl + Q shortcut.
Other Microsoft apps, such as Paint and Snipping Tool, are also getting AI upgrades. The updated Paint app can create custom stickers based on user prompts, while the Snipping Tool now features an Object select tool that isolates specific parts of images for editing.
These AI-powered features will first be rolled out to Windows Insiders users before being made available to the general public. They require a Copilot+ PC, which is available on some HP laptops.
