Microsoft is updating its Windows Hello authentication system, which includes facial recognition and fingerprint scanning, to improve security and user experience. The new features are now in beta testing with Windows Insiders and include visual changes, a new UI, and better passkey management.
The update will be available on the login screen and when using passkeys to sign into websites and apps. It aims to provide a cleaner experience for users, allowing them to easily switch between authentication options and select passkeys or devices more intuitively.
Currently, Microsoft supports passkeys in Windows 11, but the mobile app experience is outdated. The new update will improve this by providing a modern sign-in UI for passkeys and Microsoft account authentication.
Developers can also use a new API to integrate their password and passkey managers with the updated Windows Hello experience. This will allow users to access their passkeys on both PC and mobile devices, and save them in third-party apps or sync them to their Microsoft accounts.
