Microsoft has released a preview update aimed at resolving several bugs plaguing the 2024 version of Windows 11, known as 24H2. The KB5050094 patch addresses issues caused by January’s buggy Patch Tuesday update and older problems that have been ongoing.
The latest fix resolves a glitch where USB headphones and other devices connected via DAC failed to produce audio due to an “insufficient system resources” error message. It also addresses a problem with USB cameras, preventing Windows from recognizing their status. However, it doesn’t seem to address reported issues with built-in webcams.
Gaming users can now enjoy AutoHDR again, a feature that enhances gameplay by converting standard dynamic range content to high dynamic range HDR. The patch also resolves an issue where the mouse cursor would disappear when trying to select or edit text using the cursor.
Other fixes include:
– Cumulative Windows updates installing correctly
– Error messages when connecting to a Windows 11 workstation via Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Gateway
– Distorted screenshots in the Windows Snipping Tool when using multiple monitors with different scaling
Additionally, this update allows regular users to change their time zone without admin rights required. The cursor no longer becomes transparent and stutters when moved across the screen.
This KB5050094 preview update is not mandatory but can be downloaded manually by going to Settings, selecting Windows Update, and checking for available updates. Alternatively, users can browse the Microsoft Update Catalog to download the MSU file and install it.
