Microsoft is set to make thousands more layoffs as its fiscal year comes to an end, according to sources citing Bloomberg. The company has already laid off nearly 3% of its workforce, approximately 6,000 employees, in May. The new round of cuts will target areas such as sales and is expected to be announced early next month.
As of June 2024, Microsoft had a total of 228,000 employees, with sales and marketing accounting for 45,000 positions. This marks the third-largest category behind operations and product research and development. However, Microsoft has not confirmed any further workforce changes despite a recent report highlighting the potential benefits of smaller AI-assisted teams across various industries.
