Microsoft Releases New Windows 11 Preview Build with Hardware Specifications and Improvements

Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 preview build (Build 22621.4800, KB5050085) in the Beta Channel, introducing several changes to enhance user experience. The update includes new PC spec cards that provide detailed information about your computer’s processor, graphics card, memory, storage, and more.

The new feature allows web developers to easily create dynamic and interactive widgets using their existing web content. This will enable users to add custom widgets to the widgets surface in Windows 11.

In addition, Microsoft has made changes to File Explorer. The update temporarily disables a previous change that caused File Explorer to open in a new tab by default when launched from outside the app or desktop. However, this change is expected to be rolled out again soon.

Users who restore their PC from a backup using the Windows Setup experience (OOBE) on a new PC will now see a standard Windows 11 taskbar. This feature was previously only available on managed commercial PCs.

The update also improves support for web search providers in Windows Search, including clearer provider attribution in tabs. Furthermore, Microsoft has introduced “top cards” under Settings > System > About, providing an easy way to view your PC’s key specifications at a glance.

Commercial customers on PCs managed by IT administrators will soon see a new Settings homepage with additional enterprise-specific device info and accessibility preferences cards. Users who also use their Microsoft account on these PCs will see a new accounts card indicating the presence of both work and school accounts.

The update also includes fixes for various issues, including improved text scaling support in File Explorer. However, users should be aware that some known issues remain, such as the possibility of File Explorer not rendering correctly when restored after being minimized, and issues with the Settings homepage crashing or showing incorrect device info on non-managed PCs.

Overall, this update aims to enhance user experience and provide more detailed information about your PC’s hardware specifications. Users can find more information about the update in Microsoft’s official announcement on the Windows Blog.
