Microsoft Releases Windows 11 KB5053656 with 38 Changes and Fixes

Microsoft has released the KB5053656 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2, bringing 38 changes and fixes to the operating system. The update includes real-time translation on AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs, as well as improvements in authentication and blue-screen issues.

The update is part of Microsoft’s “optional non-security preview updates” schedule, which pushes updates at the end of each month to test bug fixes, improvements, and features before they roll out during next month’s Patch Tuesday release. Unlike regular Patch Tuesday cumulative updates, monthly non-security preview updates do not include security updates.

On Copilot+ PCs with AMD and Intel CPUs, KB5053656 adds live captions and real-time translation support for over 44 languages into English. The update also fixes issues that can trigger a PDC_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT bug check (blue screen) when resuming from sleep and several bugs causing Kerberos and FIDO Cached Credential authentication to stop responding in some scenarios.

The March 2025 preview update comes with additional fixes and improvements, including:

* Improved Windows Search on Copilot+ PCs
* Fixes for prolonged execution times with MSI files
* Resolution of issues with the boot menu and unnecessary entries

However, Microsoft is aware of two known issues with KB5053656, including an issue that affects Citrix components and prevents Roblox players from downloading the game. Users can manually download and install the update or check for updates through Settings.

The Windows 11 24H2 update is now in broad deployment and is available to all seekers via Windows Update. Additionally, Microsoft has started force-upgrading eligible non-managed systems running the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 22H2/23H2 to Windows 11 24H2.
