Microsoft Removes Script to Bypass Windows 11 Account Requirement

Microsoft has removed the ‘BypassNRO.cmd’ script from its latest Windows 11 Insider Dev preview build, which allowed users to bypass the requirement to use a Microsoft Account during installation. The change aims to enhance security and user experience in Windows 11.

The new feature, introduced in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5516, ensures that all users exit setup with internet connectivity and a Microsoft Account. This move aligns with Microsoft’s goal of making its ecosystem of cloud-based features and services easier to use.

However, the removal of this script may raise concerns among users who prefer using local accounts over Microsoft Accounts due to privacy and monitoring concerns. To bypass this requirement in the past, users relied on the ‘BypassNRO.cmd’ script, which created a Registry value that removed the need for internet connectivity during setup.

Although Microsoft has removed the script, it has not yet removed the BypassNRO Registry value. Users who are comfortable modifying their Windows Registry can manually create this value using Regedit to achieve similar functionality.

It is essential to note that this technique may no longer work in future updates, making manual registry modifications a temporary workaround. As Microsoft continues to refine its ecosystem and security features, users should be aware of these changes and potential implications for their account requirements.
